A Cultural Resource Management field archaeology team in eastern New Mexico has uncovered petroglyphs connected to a known cult (keywords CTHULHU, DAGON). The survey is being conducted after workers for Innskeep Energy discovered artifacts on the site. Preliminary research has indicated the site was connected to operation GRANITE ORION. Initial analysis of operation documents indicates that the site is in of itself dangerous and steps must be taken to prevent any development on it.

Agent ATHERTON works for the EPA and will take the lead for Operation UMBER FARM. We believe our best chance is to condemn the site as hazardous to human life to prevent future development. All artifacts connected to flagged keywords must be confiscated or destroyed. Civilians must not gain knowledge of the Group unless they are inducted as Friendlies. An office park in Santa Fe has been rented under a holding company Consolidated Synergy. Key cards, burner phones, and documentation for the company is being couriered to you now. Agent HOLDEN will meet all of you there in 48 hours to brief you in more detail. Make arrangements to take time off from current assignments for the next week. HOLDEN will act as your handler for this mission.

A group of untested agents have been asked to assist a rare book dealer who appears to be suffering from a mental breakdown. However, the dealer has fled into the Coxeter Museum, a small art museum and gallery. When the team enters the building, it quickly becomes apparent that the building’s interior is unlike any other structure they have ever encountered. It is a maze beyond their wildest imagination. Is escape even possible?

This scenario was an entry in the 2016 Shotgun Scenario contest. The map to the museum can be seen here. I also added another shotgun scenario, Unfriendly by Bret Kramer, as a hook to get the PCs into the museum.

If we look too deeply into the roiling chaos of reality, chaos may look back. The Olympian Holobeam Array, funded in part by the U.S. Department of Energy, was built to delve into a fringe theory of physics. A few hours ago, the Holobeam Array went online. A few minutes ago, it went offline in a catastrophic power surge. Its engineers soon restored power and communications. Its lead researcher said everything was fine. Working Group Icarus is sent in, under cover of a Department of Energy safety inspection. The Agents have no idea what they’ll find when they reach the Array.

Synopsis: Decades ago, an explosion leveled the Hunt Electrodynamics Plant and put most of Hellbend, California, out of work. Now the town is nearly dead. Only eighty-two people call the crumbling remains of Hellbend home, and those few don’t look to the future. They get by on what they can, selling gas and goods to tourists on the way to the Death Valley National Park and biding their time. In another few years, Hellbend will die a natural death, shriveling up in the 110-degree summer heat, leaving behind a skeleton of ruined buildings as a monument to a better time.

But in the last month, something else has worn away at the town, something decidedly unnatural. If the murder rate in Hellbend continues, it’ll die a lot faster than a few years, and a lot more violently than just another victim of some dead industry.

Someone or something is killing the residents of Hellbend, California. No one knows who or what it is. Working Group Icarus has been tasked to find the killer and stop them.
